Comenzamos por decir que es una banda del sur de California, de Orange County (USA), suele catalogarse como Pop punk, Happy punk o hardcore melódico, pero si bien pueden o no ser acertadas estas clasificaciones, en su musica podemos encontrar, sonidos punk, hardcore, ska, grunge, hasta unos toques de metal.
Banda que comenzara por ahi de los 1984 y que hasta ahora tiene 7 discos de estudio mas una recopilación de exitos, que con su exitoso disco "Smash" vendiera la cantidad de 14 millones de discos (por lo cual mantiene el record de mayor ventas de una disquera independiente) que su video "Come Out And Play" (de bajos recursos) fuera exigida por miles de llamas a MTV, para su transmision, y que ahora esta trabajando en lo que sera su octavo disco (el cual se puede seguir la grabacion por medio de una camara en su estudio http://www.offspring.com/studiocam/index.html.
Luego de su paso por Epitaph records, firman con una transnacional (lo que enfada a sus seguidores) Columbia records (filial de Sony music) pero mantienen el exito y en 1998 sale a la luz "Americana" con 10 millones de copias vendidas y sus exitos Pretty Fly ( For A White Guy), (cancion que el grupo ofrecia gratis en formato mp3 y mantiene el record de mayor descarga, 22 millones de downloads en un semana en su pagina oficial), The Kids Aren't Alright y Why Don't You Get A Job (con la cual fueron demandados por parecerce a una cancion de los beatles, (me pregunto ¿que punk oye a los beatles?))
La Banda en su tour "Americana" hizo una parada en el Distrito Federal en Diciembre del 99 en uno de los pabellones del Palacio de Los Deportes.
